Charles Lucas MSW, LCSW
Therapist and Owner of Lucas Counseling Group
Hi, my name is Charlie Lucas, and I am a therapist and founder of Lucas Counseling Group.
When I opened our practice in 2015, one of my missions was to obliterate the mental health stigma by straying away from the stale clinical setting and challenging the stereotypes that many people assign to therapists.
Many of our clients have expressed how relieved they felt after the first meeting. We often hear people say: “well, that wasn’t what I expected.” Our culture at Lucas Counseling Group is a judgment-free zone built on acceptance, authenticity, respect, growth, fun, and accountability. Our clients often talk about how easy it is to feel comfortable in our office.
Why did you become a therapist?
I found my true calling to be a therapist during my year-long battle with cancer. I went through multiple surgeries and several rounds of aggressive chemotherapy, which gave me plenty of time to reflect on my life’s purpose. I was reminded every day how empowering it feels when you choose to turn your pain into purpose.
I love working with people to help them identify solutions to the obstacles that keep them feeling stuck. Witnessing people overcome barriers that have hindered them for years is one of the most rewarding experiences and keeps me passionate about what I do.
How does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
Authenticity is one of my top personal and professional core values. I believe being genuine with people serves as the foundation of a trusting therapeutic relationship. Working in a trusting relationship creates more opportunities to achieve your goals quicker and makes the process much more enjoyable.
I pride myself on my enthusiasm, light-heartedness, positivity, humor, and adaptability. My approach is NOT about fitting you in a box that fits my preferences. I take great pride in adapting my methods to meet your unique needs best. Your success is my key motivator, not my preferences.

Answer: Basketball: when I’m playing by myself, I am typically the best player on the court…unless our outdoor cat comes out to the driveway.
Is your glass half-full or half-empty?
Answer: Some say the glass is half empty. Some say it’s half full. I say “are you going to drink that?”

What would be the title of your memoir?
