My Approach
The journey of becoming a therapist has not only served as one of my life’s purposes but has also shaped my approach.
Empowerment-focused
I place maximum value on helping you understand what you are experiencing and what you can do about it. The more clarity and understanding you have about the core of the issue(s), the more confident and motivated you are to take deliberate action.
You will learn about various facets of the issue(s) and the treatment; which empowers you and leads to a better overall outcome
Acceptance/Non-judgmental
Many people beat themselves down when experiencing fluctuations in motivation and attitude towards change. I won’t judge you because of your history, experiences, or mistakes. Who the heck am I to judge you?
Part of my approach is helping you respond to your internal and external struggles in a healthier way. Judging you is unproductive, and I’m not about that.
Strategic
One of the common pitfalls of the change process is expecting our mentality to carry us through goal achievement. But mentality is unstainable without a strategy. Without a plan, the lack of valuable change will likely continue to erode your psyche. I will help you establish deliberate action steps that induce a positive ripple effect on other areas of your life. My goal is to maximize the value in every move we make together.
Progress-Focused/Growth
I’m not a fan of the phrase “baby steps” because it implies “baby impact.” Many people get caught in the trap of constantly comparing where they are to where they want to be. It is also essential to periodically compare where you are to where you started. Continually taking an “ok. What’s next?” approach to change makes it challenging to acknowledge progress. Progress is the fuel that keeps you motivated to achieve your goals. I’ll help you maintain a whole-picture perspective.
Value-Focused
Unless a goal is meaningful to us, we are not likely to remain committed to it.
There are several possible reasons why we struggle to make sustainable progress. One of the main reasons is that we start the change process on an unstable foundation. I will help you strengthen your foundation to be confident that the steps you are making will generate the best results.
I will help you assess your core values, and we will design your goals to align with them. The closer your goals align with your values, the more likely you will overcome obstacles and achieve sustainable change.
Treatment Modalities
I utilize several different treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness practices.
Whether you are just starting to contemplate making a change or are ready to jump in with both feet, I will meet you where you’re at, and we’ll get to work.
